 What is BUDDHA NOSE ?
Buddha Nose is a line of organic body care products that inspire beauty through wellness. Recognizing the connection between the energetic dynamics of shiatsu, a Japanese form of bodywork based in Traditional Chinese Medicine, with the essential oils of aromatic plants. Amy Galper, a New York City based shiatsu practitioner founded Buddha Nose, Ltd. in the spring of 2004 to encourage her mostly female clientele to “be still and breathe.” Buddha Nose's unique aromatic products include body massage salves, lip balms, aromatic sprays, bath salts, scrub cleansers and essential oils, and are made with only certified organic and wild-crafted ingredients. Each and every ingredient has been carefully researched and sourced, with all materials procured directly from eco-certified farmers' cooperatives and distributors who work directly with farmers and their distilleries.
Who is Amy Galper ?
Amy Galper was inspired to create Buddha Nose by her shiatsu clients, who have consistently loved her aromatic products. She graduated from The Ohashi Institute and completed the Institute's instructor training program and studied aromatic plant medicine at The Ojai School of Massage. Amy maintains a private practice in New York City and is a member of the American Organization of Bodywork Therapies of Asia, (AOBTA), the National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA) and the Handmade Beauty Network (HBN). In addition to her private practice, where Amy works with clients whose complaints range from general stress related issues to chronic illnesses like Cystic Fibrosis, Amy also teaches workshops about essential oils, wellness and shiatsu. Prior to launching her wellness business, Amy was an actress in New York with credits that included commercials, classical stage and film as well as experimental performance. She attended the Juilliard School, received her BA from Smith College, and received her MA from New York University.
Why BUDDHA NOSE ?
Several years ago, Amy experienced a “healing crisis.” After having always been very healthy and active, she was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease. Drawn to Chinese medicine and its philosophy, which viewed the kidneys as the most vital and precious of all the internal organs, Amy considered her kidneys as a metaphor and shifted her perspective. She dedicated herself to a macrobiotic diet, acupuncture and bodywork and prevented the anticipated adverse side effects of the drug therapy from presenting. One year later Amy went into remission. Now she practices shiatsu in New York City, develops new Buddha Nose products and spends time with her husband of 9 years building their eco-conscious “off-the-grid” home on their 30 acres in the Catskills.
