Are all of your products organic? How can we tell?
All of the ingredients used to make each of our products are certified USDA organic. At times however, we are unable to source USDA certified components due to circumstances beyond our control - like crop yield. So in those instances we select ingredients that have been sustainably and ethically farmed or wild-crafted. You can tell by reading our product descriptions and ingredient listings, as well as noting the asterisk at each ingredient listing on the label.
What are essential oils?
Essential oils are naturally occurring aromatic compounds found in the roots, seeds, flowers, leaves, bark, wood (i.e. all plant materials) of plants. These aromatic compounds are extracted from the plant material through the process of steam distillation, and once extracted form a highly concentrated and fragrant liquid that we identify as an “oil,” but is actually not “oily” in texture or structure.
Essential oils are the identifying markers of each plant; its their quintessential “essence;” It’s what makes a ginger root smell like ginger, or mint leaf smell like mint.

Do you hand-make everything yourself?
Buddha Nose was launched out of my kitchen in 2004. I created all the recipes and essential oil blends and I continue to make all the products by hand with support from various suppliers.
I'm allergic to certain things, is it safe to use essential oil on my skin?
I would suggest avoiding all ingredients you have sensitivities to. Our skin is our largest organ and everything we put on it is absorbed directly into our blood stream - it is as if we have eaten it. So for that reason, I would avoid ingredients you are allergic or sensitive to.
Do you test on animals?
No. Buddha Nose products are never tested on animals, nor are any of the ingredients used in the products. Buddha Nose products are animal friendly!
Are your products Vegan?
Yes. Our aromatic mists and sprays, our sugar scrub and essential oils are thoroughly and completely free from any animal components. Our salves and balms however are made with Beeswax. So if you are a vegan who eschews bee products, you may want to avoid our balms and salves.
Do your products use preservatives?
Buddha Nose products are free from synthetic preservative systems. We rely solely on the naturally occurring chemical constituents in our ingredients to stabilize our products. We also have made a conscious effort to avoid adding water to our balms, salves and scrubs to prevent any chance of product spoilage. For example, Jojoba Oil, Beeswax, and Sugar are some of nature’s most effective stabilizers, and help to keep our products clean and stable.
What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to promote health and well-being, by combining the powerful effects of aroma and physiological application.
How do I use a balm or salve?
Balms and salves may be used in the same way as a body cream or oil; to soften skin, heal irritations, and deeply moisturize.
